Global brands don't sell the same flavors everywhere. Fanta, Lay's, Doritos and Hi-Chew build a separate lineup for each market, tuned to what people there grew up eating.
So the logo is familiar and the flavor isn't. A Lay's made for China tastes like salted egg yolk. One made for India tastes like masala. One made for Thailand tastes like a night-market grilled squid.
Below is what we carry, brand by brand and country by country.
Fanta outside the US is a fruit-soda playground, with flavors bottled for one market and nowhere else.
Our deepest lineup. Honey Peach is light and softly sweet. Jasmine Peach takes that same peach and finishes it with a floral jasmine note, a nod to China's tea culture. Green Apple is tart and was made only for the Chinese market. Grape and Pineapple round it out.
Melon is a smooth, soft green-melon soda, Korea's version of a flavor Japan made famous. Pineapple is pineapple, plain and simple.
Shokata mixes lemon and elderflower and takes its cue from socata, a traditional Balkan drink. Tropical Exotic is a burst of mixed fruit.
Same chewy candy, two very different shelves.
Extra chewy and made with real fruit. Kyoho Grape uses kyoho, Japan's most popular table grape. Fuji Apple uses the crisp, sweet Fuji variety.
Taiwan has more fun with it. Yogurt tastes like the tangy cultured-milk drinks found all over East Asia. Soda Mix turns cola, apple soda and grape soda into chews. Mixed Fruit brings lychee, grape and peach, made with real juice.
No snack shows off local taste like Lay's. We carry four countries, and they barely overlap.
The boldest shelf. Salted Egg Yolk is a traditional flavor built on preserved duck eggs. Sweet & Sour Pork is modeled on guo bao rou, a crispy pork dish from China's northeast. Golden Fried Crab is based on a popular Chinese seafood dish. The thick, wavy Big Wave chips come in Crispy Roasted Chicken Wings and Sizzling Squid, the second a nod to teppanyaki squid from Chinese night markets.
Magic Masala is India's signature chip, a tangy, aromatic blend of traditional spices. Sizzlin' Hot is ridged and built for heat.
Kobe Steak takes its inspiration from Japan's famous beef and gives it a Taiwanese twist. Scallops is lighter, a seafood chip made with real scallop extract.
Hot Chili Squid tastes like chili-seasoned grilled squid, a favorite Thai street snack.
Taiwan's Doritos lean savory. Coriander is herby, seasoned with the cilantro found all over Taiwanese street food. American Hot Wings is spicy and tangy. Garlic Steak is all garlic and beef.
Mix sweet, salty and fizzy: a Jasmine Peach Fanta, a bag of Magic Masala, and Kyoho Grape Hi-Chew for after. Or line up Lay's from four countries and taste them side by side.
